Panic In Alpine Village After Bird of Prey Takes Baby
August 18th, 2008

Residents of Les Houches, a small Alpine village near Chamonix were up in arms yesterday when a small baby was grabbed by a large bird of prey, believed to be an eagle, and carried off into the mountains.
A search has begun, with police and local residents teaming up to try and establish where the child has been taken to.
“One minute he was playing in the front garden, the next thing I knew he was flying through the air, taken by this great bird” Said Monique Baton, the boys distraught mother.
Although these types of attack are very rare, they are not unfeasible: “Eagles are extremely powerful animals, and would have no problem in carrying very small children” said Gunther Blaas, from Geneva Zoological University. Only recently in Poland an Eagle grabbed a small dog.
The search continues.
